Shelly, New York - As the mobile phones of the Chipotle server in Shelly began to issue tornado warnings in the Three Villages area before 4:30 pm on Saturday, some people questioned whether this is possible because it is close to the Atlantic Ocean.

"All of us were alerted to the tornado alert, so all our phones were turned off at the same time. We thought,'Oh, what if we see a tornado?'" said an employee, adding, "Because No, there are no tornadoes on Long Island because we are very close to the water. Then we heard the wind and the lights started to flicker."

The manager of the chain store went to the front door and closed it because in the past it had encountered problems when it opened because the employees stayed at the back of the store-away from the large glass windows covering the east and front. Said the clerk.

After the wind stopped, the employees went out to check the damage.

It turns out that the awning above the store and the other two awnings were destroyed in what some said might have landed in Suffolk County. A Suffolk County Police spokesperson stated that the store’s sign was reported before 4 pm.

After the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning, a fast-moving thunderstorm collapsed trees, causing power outages and people were forced to hide in their homes.

The awning seemed to have been hit by something because it was torn off from the side of the building above the chain store and from the H&R block next door and Gerardo's Pizzeria under the two doors. Part of the awning hangs over the sidewalk in front of Chipotle, while the rest lie in a crumpled pile in the parking lot.

Two cars parked nearby were also damaged. A car belonging to a customer was damaged in accordance with a collision, the trunk was thrown away, and the window of another car belonging to an employee was blown up and covered with a garbage bag to prevent rain.

An employee said that the employees had dragged "metal in from the street" so that emergency services could pass through.

In a statement to Patch, a Chipotle spokeswoman stated that the site "suffered from a severe storm."

The statement read: "None of our employees and guests were harmed, and the site will be temporarily closed until further notice."

Firefighters from the Mastic Fire Station and Suffolk Police sealed the area with yellow warning tape. They protected the property and checked for loose wires.

As news of the loss spread, the sights of these two popular restaurants attracted bystanders who drove by, and some even went out to take photos for social media. Others gathered around the employees of the shopping center, waiting for everything to be lifted, and returning to the store, asking about their experiences.

"This is crazy, isn't it?" asked a man who took a picture with his mobile phone.

Gerardo's boss told his followers in a Facebook post that the pizzeria would be closed for "security considerations" and vowed to let them know about the situation.

"We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you, but the safety of our customers and employees is of paramount importance to our values," the post read.

A tree on a meadow at the corner of Montauk Highway and William Floyd Park Road was split in the storm.

As grocery store customers continue to shop through the entrance into the western part of the mall, this is almost the same as usual. But a tree in the back of the area fell, blocking an alley used for delivery to the store.

Elsewhere in the area, the Montauk Highway and William Floyd Park Avenue are littered with fallen trees and debris, such as political campaign signs. There were loose wires hanging from the traffic lights, and one of the wires was so low that it was passing over the top of the car as they passed in a lane near the railroad crossing.

Suffolk police said that all parts of the county are receiving calls about fallen trees and electrical wires. At the nearby Brookhaven Calabro Airport, just on the way to the shopping center, several aircraft were damaged.

This is a story of development. Check back for updates.
